Meanwhile, here are some updates on 361Firm's 4th annual Midwest Tour on Sept. 23-29 with stops on Sept. 23rd in Chicago, 24th in Detroit and Ann Arbor, 25th in Cincinnati, 26th in Granville, 27-28th in Columbus and 28-29th in Cleveland. We now expect 600+ family offices, institutional investors, funds and CXOs interacting to access investments, capital, talent, and strategic partners as well as to make an impact by leveraging philanthropic interests. Keynotes include Lt. Governors of Ohio (Jon Husted) in Columbus and Michigan (Garlin Gilchrist) in Detroit, and Michigan Football Coach Jim Harbaugh in Ann Arbor. The Agenda is attached. On hotels, we are reserving more room blocks - see the Midwest Tour Hotel Reference Sheet, updated regularly. Per below, we chartered a "tour bus" that starts in Cincinnati (so far). You can share this to invite others, including the Pre-Tour Coordination Calls noted below by City, Industry, Asset Class and "Run of Show." As space is limited (with priority to family offices and early registrants), be sure to take 2 minutes today to register interest in one or more cities at 361firm.com/midw.
Sept. 22-23 in Chicago: Our Midwest Tour kicks off in Chicago, as with our Route 66 Tour (St. Louis, Tulsa, Santa Fe, Santa Monica, with stops in Phoenix and Vegas - in 2022). It formally starts on Sept. 23 at 1pm at Winston & Strawn's large top floor at 35 W. Wacker. Beforehand, there will be a special morning tour and early lunch in the South Side (details to follow), and some arriving on Sept. 22 can go to the Autobahn to race cars. At 1:15pm Winston's Global Tax Leader Olga Loy updates us on tax legislation and Ron Diamond moderates the "Zeitgeist" panel on the directions Chicago is heading. We then have panels on asset allocation, fintech, healthcare, cannabis and Impact/Philanthropy followed by an hour of interactive "360" Roundtable Breakouts. At 5:30 we convene our traditional "Town Hall Debrief" (sharing Breakout takeaways) followed by networking and 1:1 meetings before curated dinners. I am staying Club Quarters on Wacker near W&S (rooms for $120 to $190/night), but some are flying that evening to Detroit Metro (~25 minutes to downtown, e.g. Marriott Renaissance in Detroit or to Ann Arbor where hotels are much cheaper on Thursday but 45 mins to Detroit). There are many morning flights too.
Sept. 24-25 in Detroit / Ann Arbor: On Sept. 24 we meet in Detroit at 12pm with a "Zeitgeist" panel on the city's renaissance followed by panels on cannabis and impact and a special "fireside chat" with Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II moderated by our Gary Bolles. We then move to Ann Arbor in the afternoon in conjunction with the University of Michigan's Tech Transfer Office Keynotes include John Denniston (ex-Kleiner Partner), Michigan Football Coach Jim Harbaugh and TTO Director Kelly Sexon who wil feature amazing R&D projects. We finish with a panel of VC funds, Breakouts and a Town Hall Debrief on the day and networking with cocktails. On Sept. 25, we meet at 8am for breakfast at the iconic Zingerman’s Deli. As the Michigan football game starts now at 3pm (and we have some 50-yard line tickets to share/raffle), many will push on to Ohio after breakfast. It’s a 4-hour drive to Cincinnati but I see cheap flights. Depending on numbers, we could arrange a bus or van, but I am flying on Delta for $99 at 12:15 arriving at 1:30 (I'll miss lunch in Cincinnati but will make the walking tour - the formal start is at 3pm at Cintrifuse - see below).
Sept. 25-26 in Cincinnati: We start at 12pm ET with lunch at the Cincinnati Country Club, followed by a "Walking Tour" of revitalizing neighborhoods with investment projects, innovative philanthropic programs, and the new FC Cincinnati stadium. This evolves into the "Historic Beer Tour" leading to the 100+ year-old catacombs below the city's VC hub at Cintrifuse. This is where the conference formally starts at 3pm with panels on the Cincinnati "Zeitgeist" to shed lights on the area's key industries and investors, then by investment themes (featuring VC funds and founders) and Philanthropic Interests. We then enable Breakouts and 1:1s before moving to a suite at the Reds vs. White Sox game. On Sept. 26 we host Breakfast at the Lytle Park Hotel before heading toward Columbus by bus.
Sept. 26-28 in Granville/Columbus: On Sunday, Sept. 26 we arranged for some outdoor activities at my alma mater (Denison) in Granville including "Best Ball" at Denison's Golf Course at 2pm followed by a reception at the Granville Inn featuring a special Fireside Chat with author Peg Wyant and a panel on Inclusion and Mentoring in finance. After the reception and dinner, the bus will shuttle people to Columbus hotels. On Sept. 27, the Columbus Conference starts at 9am with keynotes by Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, JobsOhio CEO JP Nauseef and economist Nancy Lazar who will give us an update on her favorite "emerging market" - the Midwest. Then we host panels on the Future of Work, Innovation in Philanthropy and Impact Investing, and Key industries, along with interactive "360" Roundtable Breakouts by those topics. By 5pm we reconvene for our traditional "Town Hall Debrief" (sharing takeaways from various Breakouts), and then enable more networking and 1:1 meetings before curated dinners. On Sept. 28 we start at 7am with a "5K Run/Walk" and then panels on Global Perspectives, Asset Allocation, again with Breakouts. At 12pm ET we have lunch and a bus to Cleveland.
Sept. 28-29 in Cleveland: Our Cleveland program starts at 3pm on Sept. 28 with tours of the unique Nottingham-Spirk/EY Innovation Lab in "University Circle" which is home to the Cleveland Clinic and Case Western. We will have panels on the Cleveland Area's "Zeitgeist" and key industries, Breakouts, our Town Hall Debrief followed by networking with "Cocktails on the Terrace" and dinners. Our bus can take you to hotels downtown or the east side as breakfast on Sept. 29 will be at the Beechmount Country Club at 8am in Beachwood. At 10am we will offer guided tours at the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well as a special excursion to the new $1B+ Football Hall of Fame Village in nearby Canton.
