Below are some takeaways from our Aug. 19 spotlight on Human Trafficking, with thanks to Mitzi Perdue for leading and introducing us to speakers Jaspreet Randhawa, Kevin Sullivan, CAMS, CCI, and Gary Murray.
- Human trafficking is the fastest growing and most profitable criminal enterprise in the world.
- Money-laundering makes the $150 billion a year human trafficking enterprise possible.
- It’s illegal to spend criminally-obtained money, so traffickers need to “launder” their money to make it appear as if it were legitimately obtained.
- Strengthening our ability to combat money-laundering strengthens our ability to prevent human trafficking.
- There are new and exciting ways to strengthen our anti-money laundering efforts.
- For every trafficker jailed for money laundering, 100 individuals can be spared from being trafficked.
- The more effective we are at anti-money laundering, the more we can “cut the head off the snake.”

Here are some updates on the Midwest Tour including the Chicago Conference on Sept. 23. You can share this with others and invite them to the Prep Calls noted below by city, industries and assets.

On hotels, we continue to reserve room blocks - see details here.
On Sept. 23 in Chicago, a private bus will take some to the South Side, with a formal start at Winston & Strawn earlier at 1:15pm to accommodate new panels and speakers. We are finalizing dinner arrangements.
On Sept. 24, we start in Detroit at 12pm with Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II confirmed as a keynote. There are many morning flights from Chicago to Detroit Metro, 25 minutes by taxi/uber to downtown. We start in Ann Arbor at 3pm, 45 minutes away (we will coordinate vans via Uber)
On Sept. 25, we meet at 8am for breakfast at the iconic Zingerman’s Deli. As the football game starts now at 3pm (and we have some 50-yard line tickets to share/raffle), most will push on to Ohio after breakfast. We don’t have a bus (yet - depends on numbers) but it’s a 4-hour drive to Cincinnati and there are relatively cheap flights. In Cincinnati, there is a lunch and tours and formal start by 4pm at Cintrifuse with panels, breakouts and a Reds game.
On Sept. 26, we meet for breakfast at the Lytle Hotel (next to the Great American Ballpark), and we arranged for a bus to leave at 10am to Granville for golf at 2pm (9 holes, best ball) and a 6pm reception. The bus will take some on to Columbus and come back to bring others to Columbus hotels after the reception.
On Sept. 27, we start in Columbus (not Granville). We will have a full day of panels with breakouts by Industries, lunch, drinks and dinner.
On Sept. 28, we start again in Columbus with more panels and breakouts by Asset Classes, and a bus will leave at 1pm for Cleveland where we will tour the Nottingham-Spirk/EY Innovation Center and nearby Cleveland Clinic and Case, with a reception there and dinner at either the nearby Museum of Art or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The bus will also transport you to downtown hotels.
On Sept. 29, we are hosted for breakfast at the Beechmont Country Club at 8-10am followed by guided tours offered at both the Museum of Art and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
On transport, per above, we will have a bus from Cincinnati onward starting Sept. 26 after breakfast, to Granville, Columbus and Cleveland. We might have a smaller bus or van from Ann Arbor after breakfast at Zingerman’s to Cincinnati. Otherwise, please plan your own logistics, but feel free to email inessa@361firm.com with any questions or suggestions..
